Hosted by Bilal World Entertainment, Confronting the Stigma of Mental Illness is a free community event dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and breaking down barriers to care within Black and Brown communities. Taking place on Saturday, June 6 at P.S. 180 Hugo Newman (370 West 120th Street, New York, NY 10027), the event combines film, discussion, and community resources to encourage open dialogue and healing.

The evening will feature a screening of Perdido, a thought-provoking film written and directed by Muhammad Bilal. The film follows an African American man who reluctantly seeks support from a Latino therapist after traumatic memories resurface following a tragic encounter with police. Through its exploration of trauma, vulnerability, and mental health treatment, the film sparks important conversations about seeking help and overcoming stigma.

Following the screening, attendees can participate in an interactive panel discussion featuring mental health professionals, advocates, and community leaders. A mental health and wellness resource fair will also connect guests with organizations offering free and affordable treatment options, support services, and wellness resources.

This event provides a powerful opportunity to learn, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations about mental health while building stronger, healthier communities.
